Tile Grinding
Tile grinding, sometimes referred to as honing, may be required for maintenance of the tiles or can be used to change the original look of stone tiles. Some instances where tile grinding may be necessary are:
1. The stone tile may be badly stained through the building process or through general household spills. Professional cleaning methods cannot penetrate the stone deep enough to remove the stain. The only option is to replace or hone the stone.
2. After a period of time small (and sometimes not so small!) scratches and chips appear in the stone. The tiles start to lose their lustre and start to look second hand. In some instances if the stone is not protected throughout the building processes the floor can be damaged and will require restoration.
3. The tiles look uneven once laid and there is unsightly lipage (uneven edges).
TILE ENVY has purchased HTC equipment which is specialised grinding equipment for use on travertine limestone and marble tiled surfaces.
The process can be expensive, messy and time consuming. TILE ENVY spends time with the customer so both parties understand exactly what is required, what methods are to be used, the timing of the job and what the process will involve before commencement of any works. This process helps determine a positive outcome.
To minimise the mess all walls are protected and furniture removed if necessary. Areas are covered with drop sheets, if required. TILE ENVY uses the wet grinding method together with steam cleaning equipment to minimise and remove the grinding residue from the job during the procedure leaving minimal excess. Once the floors have been de-lipped then the floor is polished to the level of sheen required. The floors are then steam cleaned, sealed and buffed. Depending on the job the carpets may be steam cleaned at completion and a professional cleaner may be employed as a follow up.
Grinding is a specialized process, which done properly can provide a solution to a specific tile problem.
